Act 2

Overview
We are pleased to announce that this Spring TMS will be putting on the play Charlotte's Web, based on E.B. White’s most famous novel.  Charlotte's Web tells the story of a young pig named Wilbur and his unlikely friendship with a barn spider named Charlotte. Wilbur is born the runt of a litter, and is saved by a girl named Fern who “adopts” him. When Wilbur is scheduled to be slaughtered, Charlotte – the spider - intervenes by writing messages on her web praising him, and rallies their barnyard companions to save him. In the words of E.B. White, this is “a story of friendship and salvation on a farm.”

Among the wonderful variety of characters in Charlotte's Web are:  Wilbur, the irresistible young pig who desperately wants to avoid the butcher; Fern, a girl who understands what animals say to each other; Templeton, the gluttonous rat who can occasionally be talked into a good deed; the barnyard animals; the Zuckerman family; the Arable family; and the extraordinary spider, Charlotte, who proves to be "a true friend and a good writer."

Charlotte's Web characters:
Fern Arable (a young girl)
John Arable (her father)
Martha Arable (her mother)
Avery Arable (her brother)
Homer Zuckerman (her uncle)
Edith Zuckerman (her aunt)
Lurvy (a hired hand)
Wilbur (a pig)
Templeton (a rat)
Charlotte (a spider)
Goose at Zuckerman's Farm, Gander at Zuckerman's Farm,
Sheep at Zuckerman's Farm, Little Little Lamb at Zuckerman's Farm,
a Photographer, a Reporter, Uncle (a very large pig), Spectators at the fair, and, of course three baby spiders. Four actors will speak chorus lines, representing the elegant and observant voice of E.B. White

Rehearsals
Being in Charlotte’s Web will require a strong commitment to being available for the rehearsal dates listed below.  When looking at the schedule, keep in mind that Not all cast members will be required at all rehearsals: a student’s involvement and their actual schedule will depend on the role in which they are cast and the progress of the project.  On days when we run whole acts however, the whole cast must be present.  Our final week before the show may have practices that go longer (tech. week).  Specific call times for each actor for each date will be communicated in full prior to the start of rehearsals.
Rehearsals will take place after school from 3:00-5:00pm, primarily on Mondays and Thursdays, however on school weeks when Monday is off, alternative days are scheduled.
